We were fortunate to follow the Healey-Driscoll Administration's recognition ceremony honoring the 28 Massachusetts-based companies featured on Time's America's Top Greentech Companies of 2024 list. Congratulations to all of the companies that were honored. Attended by legislators and a standing-room-only hall of cross-sector leaders, this event truly showcased the Commonwealth's commitment to climatetech, innovation, and sustainability.
Our panel discussion served as an opportunity to hear from a few climatetech founders about their experiences in Massachusetts. Moderated by Rebecca Davis, COO of MACP and Vice-chair of Mass Mobility Hub, it featured leading voices from the climatetech sector:
-
Joshua Aviv, CEO of SparkCharge
-
Hudson Gilmer, CEO of LineVision
-
Julie Bliss Mullen, CEO of Aclarity
-
Shreya Dave, CEO of Via Separations
The panelists shared their experiences and highlighted the unique advantages of establishing climatetech companies in Massachusetts. The Massachusetts ecosystem is strong: they emphasized how instrumental incubators like Greentown Labs, economic development agencies like the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center, and funders like MassVentures, have been to supporting their growth. The establishment of innovation hubs like Mass Mobility Hub and conferences like Climatech demonstrate the continued development of the ecosystem.
While acknowledging challenges such as the cost of living, electricity prices, and increasing competition from other states, the panelists expressed optimism about the future of the Massachusetts climatetech industry. They emphasized how the Mass Leads Act and a continued focus on investing in and strengthening the ecosystem can attract and support more climatetech companies.
We are incredibly grateful for our panelists, as well as the broad coalition of support that made this event possible: Associated Industries of Massachusetts (AIM), Environmental League of Massachusetts (ELM), The Engine, Greentown Labs, Massachusetts Business Roundtable (MBR), Mass Mobility Hub, Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation (MTF), and NECEC.
